Get even more blog traffic with FeedBurner

Following up on yesterday’s post, here is more you can do with FeedBurner.

Check your stats

One of the best features is the ability to check your stats and know how many people are accessing your feed and what specifically they are looking; in FeedBurner parlance this is called reach or people that took a specific action with your feed items.

You can check Live Hits which shows you anyone that has opened the feed in a browser or reader or bot. Determine what items/posts are getting read the most with Item Use and see if anyone is mashing-up your content with Uncommon Uses.

Optimize

Clicking the Optimize tab on the Dashboard gives you a whole slew of options to enhance your feed. You can make your feed browser friendly, add publisher info for podcasts with SmartCast, make your feed more accepted/compatible with SmartFeed and give people a way to interact and share your blog posts with FeedFlare.

The are many other options under Optimize and these will benefit most those blogs which are hosted by Blogger, Wordpress.com, TypePad or any other host which have limited access to plugins and widgets. Many of the options in FeedFlare for example are available in various plugins for the Wordpress software.

Publicize

There are some more really useful tools under the Publicize tab. With BuzzBoost, you can create code which you can use on other websites which shows your blog’s current posts. Headline Animator creates a button which you can put on a site which also shows your current posts plus you can include this in your email signature-advertise your site with each new message you send.

Pingshot lets you ping many blog search engines and directories and let them know that you have updated content. Email subscriptions allows you to create code to place a form on your site, allowing people to subscribe to your site via email, similar to FeedBlitz. FeedCount can create a button for your site which allows you to show off how many people are subscribing to your site. Chicklet chooser allows you to put chicklets on your site to allow readers to rapidly subscribe to your site via numerous readers like MyYahoo/Bloglines/etc.

You can also license your content and specify your feed uses with the Creative Commons option.

Monetize

FeedBurner has added an ad network to their offerings and as soon as your site has met their requirements, this tab will probably show you the options to add ads to your feed.

With all the tools FeedBurner provides, it is no wonder that many people are opting to use it to enhance their site’s access and readability.
